How Do Emails Go Directly to Public Forums?
I just started working at a place and noticed something weird - a head
hunter is sending emails to someone who has not worked here for years
and those emails are showing up as posts in a public folder. The user
account has been deleted (years ago) and the email address cannot be
found anywhere (using "Find" and looking for that email account or user
name for Users/Contacts/Groups) in Users and Computers MMC.
How can this be? Can a public folder be setup to receive emails without
a valid account being in Active Directory or am I missing something? Thanks in advance.

Hi,Yes, if Anonymous user has Create Item/Contributer or higher permission on the Public folder then it accepts emails from unauthenticated users also, like external emails. So verify what permission PFhas...Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Yes the PF did allow access so I changed it so that only authenticated users could post and that stopped the emails from coming in. I'm just amazed that when the user account was deleted there wasn't some notice about the PF. A simple popup prompt like "There are Public Folders that are connected to this email address. Do you want to modify them? Yes or No" would have been nice. Thanks for the reply!

Glad to know that is resolved... :)BTW, you can use PFDavAdmin and remove the permission for that user from all public folders recursively by propagating folder permissions...Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com
