Hourly nag message about mail store size?!?
Hello fellow Exchange admins I have a new Exchange 2007 server that I am about to put into production. After an epic struggle, I have Public Folder replication working more-or-less to bring my Public Folders from my old 2000 box across to the new 2007 box. Now I'm receiving a message every hour, as shown below. I have Googled just about every portion of the message and I believe this is otherwise undocumented on the Internet: From: Administrator [mailto:administrator@do.not.reply] Sent: 18 October 2007 6:29 AMTo: MIS Network AdministratorSubject: [MailServer Notification]System Events - Exchange Events - The mail store size exceeds Server: S-MAIL Date/Time: 10/18/2007 6:29:23 AM Reason: The mail store size exceeds Related information: The mail store[Public Folder Database] size exceeds 10 GB(s), the time interval of notification is 1 hr(s) I can't find anything in any manual, Help file, or website that refers to this. None of my Public Folders have a quota, and besides, even if they did, this isn't referring to a folder quota. It's referring to the size of the Public Folder database as a whole. S-MAIL is my new Exchange 2007 server. I've run cmdlets such as get-PublicFolder | fl andget-PublicFolderDatabase | fl, and I see nothing referring to this 10 gig threshold. I'm wondering if somehow it's treating the database as a Mail store instead of a Public Folder store? (it refers to it as a "mail store" on several occasions in the nag message) Nothing in the Event Viewer that stands out as being related. Please, if anyone has seen this, and has even a guess, I'd really appreciate your thoughts. Cheers Paul

Okay, so now I know why nobody responded to this. It wasn't an Exchange issue. At the risk of making myself look like an idiot, but for the benefit of anyone else who might be searching online looking for a solution to this exact same problem, it is NOT an Exchange issue. The message is coming from Trend Micro ScanMail. The default settings include this one and a few other nag messages. Some of them are quite handy, but it's a nuisance that their default thresholds are so low! To remove these alerts, log into the ScanMail console and navigate to Alerts --> System Events --> Exchange Events and adjust the settings appropriately. Good luck Paul

Thanks Paul. It was worthwhile as it helped me fix the same problem! Russell

No problem Hey, since you're using ScanMail and Exchange, if you happen to see this posting, I was wondering if you could tell me something: Have you noticed that occasionally you'll get calls from users complaining that messages are getting stuck in their Outbox and the following services have failed: ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange Master Service ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange System Watcher Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Assistants Microsoft Exchange Search Indexer Microsoft Exchange Transport Two Sundays in a row these have all failed on me and I had to reboot Just wondering Cheers Paul

The company I find myself at right now uses Trend ScanMail. No issues with stuck mail. It is Exchange 2003.
