Hot to remove lost E2007 from organization
Hi, I have several E2007 servers in my organization, which does not exist anymore. What is the valid method to take them away, as they do not have any roles anymore. And especially, I do not have the servers at all. So I cannot do the "uninstall". Can I just delete them by using AdsiEdit? -- Petri

The proper way is of course to install exchange on a server with the same name with the /m:recoverserver switch (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123496(EXCHG.80).aspx) If you cannot do this, then your only option is to use ADSI Edit. Note this is not supported. Navigate in ADSI Edit: Configuration partition -> Services -> Microsoft Exchange -> "Organization Name" -> Administrative Groups -> Exchange Administrative Group (for 2007/2010) -> Servers You should see the orphaned servers in there. Delete the one that has been removed from the environment. Again, if at all possible, uninstall Exchange from the old server.Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

Thank you Tim, Do you know the reason why the AdsiEdit unsupported? Because there might be connectors which will be not removed nor checked? Strange that you are not able to do this on the GUI/EMS at all, because all needed tests can be done at that time. But thank you for your answer. I will use AdsiEdit, it is not real production server (nor environment) and the server was originally 32 bit server. -- Petri

Microsoft never supports removing things directly from the Schema. They always want things to be removed the "proper" way. Sometimes that isn't possible. Just giving you the MS support line.Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

It was before Exchange 2007. Probably too many people were shooting themselves in the foot. Many have been asking for a supported way in 2007/2010 using a powershell command or running setup w/o the need to reinstall. Maybe one day.
