Hosted Exchange 2007 OAB Errors
Hi everyone, We are having some serious problems with offline address lists in our Hosted Exchange 2007 SP1 environment (all running on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64; all roles on separate servers). We have followed the guide from Kortek Services to setup our environment and so far everything seems to be working OK except for cached mode Outlook clients getting lots of 0X80190194 errors in their Sync Issues folders. They also get 0x80190194 when they manually try to download their OABs. I have confirmed Outlook Anywhere works for all our hosted customers using the Microsoft Test Site and the HTTPs redirect method with CNAMEs. From searching online lots of folks recommend checking if the default offline address list was assigned under client settings on the mailbox database, to which ours is set. When I manually update any offline address list I get the following sequence of event IDs on our mailbox server (OAB logging turned up per this site ): Event Type: Information Event Source: MSExchangeSA Event Category: OAL Generator Event ID: 9106 Date: 5/17/2009 Time: 7:53:57 PM User: N/A Computer: SERVER2 Description: Offline address list generation started. - Customer 1 OAB Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeSA Event Category: OAL Generator Event ID: 9344 Date: 5/17/2009 Time: 7:53:57 PM User: N/A Computer: SERVER2 Description: OALGen could not find the address list with the Active Directory object GUID of '/guid=87D868DED119FE43837908B28D5A195A' in the list of available address lists. Please check the offline address list configuration object. - Customer 1 OAB Event Type: Warning Event Source: MSExchangeSA Event Category: OAL Generator Event ID: 9109 Date: 5/17/2009 Time: 7:53:57 PM User: N/A Computer: SERVER2 Description: OALGen encountered an error 8004010f (internal ID 5000878) while generating address list '/guid=87D868DED119FE43837908B28D5A195A'. Check other logged events to see if this is a serious error. - Customer 1 OAB Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeSA Event Category: OAL Generator Event ID: 9334 Date: 5/17/2009 Time: 7:53:57 PM User: N/A Computer: SERVER2 Description: OALGen encountered error 8004010f while initializing the offline address list generation process. No offline address lists have been generated. Please check the event log for more information. - Customer 1 OAB Event Type: Information Event Source: MSExchangeSA Event Category: OAL Generator Event ID: 9107 Date: 5/17/2009 Time: 7:53:57 PM User: N/A Computer: SERVER2 Description: Offline address list generation finished. - Customer 1 OAB I have deleted and recreated the OAB as well as the associated address list and GAL. This occurs with all our existing hosted customers and any newly-created ones. The mailbox server is CCR clustered, but I don't think that matters here. The OABs are all set to only Web-Based distribution currently (while troubleshooting this issue) but the errors still persisted even with public folder based distribution enabled as well. Please help! Thanks!

Oh, and addressBookRoots is set correctly for all our hosted domains on CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=ourhostingcompany,DC=com.

First Question I have to ask is how did you recreate the OAB?Your Hosted Exchange organization, do they host your AD environment? Have you checked permissions?BP - MCITP:EMA, MCTS

I used the Exchange Management Console to recreate the OAB, as was done when all the other OABs were created too. Is there some difference to doing it with the EMC versus doing it from PowerShell? As I understand it, EMC just invokes powershell behind the scenes and even previews the powershell command that it will use to execute the pending operation. I'm not sure I understand your second question. We are the Hosted Exchange provider so we host Exchange as well as AD. Permissions are all set manually with broken inheritance per the numerous "how to setup Hosted Exchange" articles out there. The particular article we followed is here . The users in question all have Read and Download Offline Address Book rights. I don't think that comes into play, however, because I'm just trying to re-generate the OAB from the Exchange server and getting the errors detailed above. I believe if I can get the errors fixed then the end users will also be able to start downloading OABs without errors too. Thanks again for taking a look! (this has been hugely frustrating)

Have you taken a look here:http://www.msexchange.org/articles-tutorials/exchange-server-2007/monitoring-operations/testing-exchange-2007-powershell-part1.htmlMore importantly the Test-OutlookWebServices section. Could you post back what you get there?BP - MCITP:EMA, MCTS

I get the following when I run that command from one of my CAS servers: =================================================================== [PS] C:\Documents and Settings\Jason\Desktop>Test-OutlookWebServices | fl Id : 1003 Type : Information Message : About to test AutoDiscover with the e-mail address MyEmail@MyDomain.com. Id : 1007 Type : Information Message : Testing server EXCHFE01.MyDomain.com with the published name https://portal.MyDomain.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx & https://portal.MyDomain.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx. Id : 1019 Type : Information Message : Found a valid AutoDiscover service connection point. The AutoDiscover URL on this object is https://portal.MyDomain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml. Id : 1013 Type : Error Message : When contacting https://portal.MyDomain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml received the error The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized. Id : 1006 Type : Error Message : The Autodiscover service could not be contacted. =================================================================== I get the same errors when trying that command with the -Identity switch and customer email addresses. Keep in mind, however, I am running these commands from inside our hosted network. I don't think you can run them externally but I could be wrong on that.

Hi Jason, Would you please post the addressBookRoots value here for further check? I would like to explain that you can not specify both a parent container and a child of that parent as an address book root. For instance, if All Address Lists is specified as an address book root, it has to be the ONLY address book root because all your other address lists will be under All Address Lists. If you specify both the parent object and objects that exist underneath, you may encounter OAB generate issue. For example: if you have a tree of address lists that looks like:All Address Lists Company1 C1users C1contacts C1groups Company2 C2users C2contacts C2groups You could set up AddressBookRoots several ways:1) Put C1Users, C1contacts, C1groups, C2users, C2contacts, and C2groups all as address book roots2) Put Company1 and Company2 as address book roots3) A combination of the two would be valid as well. You could put Company1 as an address book root, and C2users, C2contacts, and C2groups as address book roots. Nevertheless, the OAB generation issue may occur if: 1) Put Company1 as an address book root, and then also put C1users, C1contacts, or C1groups as an address book root...2) Put Company2 and C2users, C2contacts, or C2groups as address book roots3) Put All Address Lists as an address book root, and then put anything else as an address book root as well Mike

Sorry, I don't entirely understand your reply above. I deleted all the other OABs in addressBookRoots under CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=mydomain,DC=com and only left CN=Default Offline Address Book,CN=Offline Address Lists,CN=Address Lists Container,CN=MyOrg,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=mydomain,DC=com. When I go to regenerate the OABs I still get the same errors on my mailbox servers: Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeSA Event Category: OAL Generator Event ID: 9344 Date: 5/29/2009 Time: 3:50:30 PM User: N/A Computer: SERVER2 Description: OALGen could not find the address list with the Active Directory object GUID of '/guid=87D868DED119FE43837908B28D5A195A' in the list of available address lists. Please check the offline address list configuration object. - Customer 1 OAB For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. and...
