High CPU usage in ExMon for 1 Mailbox
Hi, Exchange 2007 SP1 Rollup Update - 0 Windows Server Standard FE 2008 (SP1) I have an issue whereby the CPU is being chewed up within the store.exe of a server. When viewing the mailbox within ExMon it is consistently using 99-100% CPU. There are small periods when it does not appear but will soon resume. When restarting the Information Store the issue is remedied but returns after 3 minutes. We had the same issue around 3 months ago which was resolved by an ISINTEG but the issue has now returned. We are going to install SP3 and RU2 tomorrow but was wondering if anyone had seen this issue before. Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave, store.exe is very much resource hunger in Exchnage 2007, It use resource and release resource when any other service required it. But here i am agree that itself it should not use 99-100 %. If you are going to install RU then install RU2 V2 (RU2 had some bug itself).. To troubleshoot this issue, Does Exmon say any perticular MAPI connection gives any problem ?. also reboot the mailbox server and check again. Please post for further querese.. Anil

Hi, Sorry I didn't make myself clear. Store.exe is only sat around 25-30% but when I look in Exmon this one user is using 100% of that CPU. The server has been rebooted and this has not remedied the problem. Any more advice would be great. Dave

If this is happening with specific mailbox account then this could be due to corruption in the particular mailbox, I would suggest to isolate this mailbox by moving it to different server and monitor it for sometime. If there is no specific mailbox utilizing max CPU, then check your disk I/O. Could try moving the suspect mailbox to another DB if you have one. During the move process it should detect the corrupt items, and if need be just set the bad item limit higher than usual.

Hi, How many users are there in ExMon utility? If the store.exe process does not consume 100% CPU usage in Task Manager, I think it may be not a problem. The CPU usage in ExMon utility is not in essence the same with the CPU usage in Task Manager. If the CPU usage in Task Manager is consumed 1%, the CPU usage in ExMon utility just shows who is divided to use the 1% of physical CPU usage in Task Manager, such as user A consumes 90% and user B consumes 2%, etc. In my lab, you can see that there is only one user who connect Exchange via Outlook and he consumes 100% CPU usage in ExMon utility. However, the real CPU usage and store.exe process both are 0%. So, we cannot assure it’s a problem based on the CPU usage in ExMon utility. Please check whether the user can access Exchange, send or receive message fine. Also, please monitor Event log. If there is any problem, there will be a record. Thanks. Hi, This appears to have been resolved by installing SP3 & RU2. Thanks for your help Dave

Totally agree with Anil. Not only does it take lots of CPU but also RAM.
