Help with converting mail-contacts to Exchange mailboxes
We are in the midst of a Domino to exchange migration, here is the issue.Since we are doing a phased approach we have some users that are in exchange, and some that are in domino. So that users in exchange users can email lotus notes users i created 7xx mail-contacts, all of these contacts also have ad accounts and when their exchange mailbox is created the mail contact will be deleted and their mailbox created. The issues that we are seeing now besides the cached auto suggest failing is that the routing seems different when they were contacts, if i open an old email from a user that is now migrated it brings up a display like this /O=Company/OU=EXCHANGE ADMINISTRATIVE GROUP (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN=JohnDoe. If i reply to that old email that has a now migrated user, but this old contact pointer, the message bounces.Any ideas on how i should create / re-create / populate the gal with non-exchange users with a clean conversion? Thanks in advance, this is quite urgent for me.

That's something similar to cross forest migration of Exchange with PST export doesn't resolve the Exchange addresses (value of legachExchangeDN) while using autoreply of outlook. You can resolve this by adding legacyExchangeDN value of contact to user account when users are being migrated from lotus contact to AD account.Exchange E-mail Addresses and the Outlook Address Cachehttp://www.simple-talk.com/exchange/exchange-articles/exchange-e-mail-addresses-and-the-outlook-address-cache/So an example, add an custom email address with type X500 and the value should be the legacyExchangeDN value of contact to the user account of John Doe ( legacyExchangeDN value of you previous contact supposed to be /O=Company/OU=EXCHANGE ADMINISTRATIVE GROUP (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN=JohnDoe).Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

That seems to have worked thank you so much, will i still be able to delete the mail contact? Is the X500 address now their primary for internal exchange routing? Will i be able to delete this address at some point? Thanks again.

Yes, delete the contact then add the x500 address, internal Exchange mail communication works based on legacyExchangeDN value. So anybody tries to reply a mail which was sent by this contact or try to use their auto-complete in outlook, it will be delivered to the mailbox which has x500 address.Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

so if i delete the X500 address a year from now, only email a year old will be un-replyable to?Thanks again for all your help.

The only emails, which were sent by the contact which you already deleted, will be affected/un-replyable when you delete X500 after a year. Normal mail flow from the new user mailbox works based on it's current legacyExchangeDN of new user object.X500 address is kind of secondary SMTP address, if somebody isstill sendinga mail to old legacyExchangeDN then it will be delivered to the mailbox where you added old legacyExchangeDN as a X500.Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com
