Help with Overview of E-Mail Routing / Handling with Exchange 2007
Hi There, I have just installed MS Exchange 2007 today and attempting to solve a long standing problem which I tried to accomplish previously using 2003 but with no sucess; please someone help. MS Exchange 2007 is installed on Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 and is a completely fresh installation - no migration. I am essentially looking to get all my mail from my ISP which hosts my mail server out on the internet (POP3): mail.DOMAINNAME.com and pass it all to one inbox on my own exchange server. (I have a catch all e-mail address on my ISP) Other than using any 3rd party tools can I use any native MS Exchange 2007 features to download messages from my POP3 server which my ISP hosts to my local exchange server? [i have already attempted previously of replacing my ISP's mail server with my own by changing my DOMAINNAME's MX records but this proved to be flakey in comparison with my ISP and do not wish to do this route] Secondly, I also wish to use my local Exchange 2007 Server to send out e-mail but I would like the ability to change the send from within Outlook 2007 so I can write ANYTHING@MYDOMAINNAME.COM (instead of messages being sent on-behalf of); how can I acomplish this and then pass the mail onto my ISP for final routing to recipients. My thanks in advance, please advise if you require further clarification Giac

For your first question, no version of Exchange Server (except the SBS versions) has a POP3 retriever client. There are quite a few of these on the market, though. Check out this link for some tools: http://www.slipstick.com/exs/popconnect.asp POPGrabber has a freebie version for up to 3 mailboxes. Second, Outlook cannot be configured with a different "reply to" address. LOTS of people ask for this. (Hello, Office Team, areyou listening????) There are a few 3rd party products that are supposed to do this, but I can't seem to find a reference right now. One of them was something like "mail chooser" or something.

Jim,Many thanks for the reply. The POP connector sounds great, i'll attempt to implement that later. On the other hand i am not looking for a different reply to address, i would just like to have a different 'from' address without saying 'on behalf of' in the e-mail address when sending e-mail out; i'm having trouble setting up the connection to my ISP so that mail is sent from my ISP and not my home Exchange Server. I've attempted to set up a send connector with Exchange 2007 which should send all "*" domains to my ISP for delivery. I have attempted to use SMTPDiag tool and everything seems to be working correctly. Any thoughts?
