Help with MFCMAPI on Exchange 2003
My understanding is all the software needed for MFCMAPI should be installed with exchange 2003. But when Im trying to use Logon and Display Datastore I get the error: MAPIInitialize failed with the error 0x80004005 == MAPI_E_CALL_FAILED. I added a user as suggested here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/exchangesvradmin/thread/8a69d40d-7a04-47bc-bcbd-3629a6107547 in system manager to the exchange server with the send as and receive permissions set to allow, but no luck.

Hi Ryan, Thanks for your update. 0x80004005 is a general error which indicates the MACMapi tool cannot connect to the mailbox account. Could you provide more description on the issue you are encountering? 1. Is MFCmapi tool running on the Exchange 2003 server? Is there Outlook application installed? 2. Suppose the Outlook is installed, is there any third party addins? Please remove all add-ins installed in Outlook and then try again to see if this works. 3. If you run it on a client computer where Outlook is installed and is set to be run in Online mode, can you encounter the same error? 4. What mailbox account are you trying to connect to? A user mailbox, or an equipment mailbox? 5. If you create a new mailbox account in the server, logon it first in Outlook and then try with MFCmapi, can you connect successfully? 1. Exchange 2003. I had installed Outlook 2007 to try and get it to work with no such luck. 2. Its just a base install, no addons were installed 3. Not sure about the online mode, but it runs fine on my xp machine with outlook 2007. 4. User mailboxes. 5. I cant get to the point of selecting a user mailbox. The error from the first post occurs when I try and display the logon table.

So, the issue only occurs on Exchange 2003 server, when you click “Logon and display store table”, the error 0x80004005 appears and you are not able to choose Outlook profile to logon. Is that correct? If this is the scenario, I am still suspecting it is related to Outlook related configuration. Please try steps below to isolate the fault: 1. Create a new Outlook profile for the mailbox account you would like to connect via Control Panel->Mail, select Online mode, and logon into Outlook at least once, then try mfcMAPI again to see if this works. 2. Remove Outlook from the server, and the profiles from Control Panel->mail, then reinstall it to see if this works. 3. Run clean boot, or run system in Safe Mode with Network Connection on the maintenance time to see if this works. It could help us isolate the fault from third party applications. I ran number 1 on a test exchange server and that fixed it. I had read somewhere that outlook should not be installed on an exchange server, can you confirm this?

That depends on the version. Generally it is not recommended, and we only did for test purpose.
