Hangup Issue in EMC
Hi,Please take a look if the issue is normal:In my mailbox server there are more than 600 mailbox/users and more than 500 Mailcontacts. If i'm going to search for a mailbox/users then i will click that user's mailbox properties, it takes 5mins or more before the properties will be enabled. This behavior is quite un-acceptable,i tried to figured it out what's causing this,if its AD or Exchange issue. My Exchange 2007 has roll-out 9 updates installed, and my current set-up are:3 DC's in Root domain, users around 800.2 Exchange 2007 Installed in Root domain ((1 MB Server) (1 HUB/CAS)).Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks.LRMCP

It really depend on how you have architecture d the server. Such as Hardware Platform, processor Memory and Disk Subsystems and paging files. If none of them planned accordingly then it will yields to bottle neck. I would rather ask you to check the couple of things Have you installed Exchange on DC? How many GC's have you deployed? Are these DC and GC in same LAN segments? The Best thing would be to run the EXBPA from below link. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=DBAB201F-4BEE-4943-AC22-E2DDBD258DF3&displaylang=en Vinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|

Hi, When you double click on any user, then the property of the user does open.... It shows you how much space the mailbox is taking in the database. And it takes some time depending on the load on the server and memory in use to calculate the same.. From your question it seems that you have installed the exchange on GC itself...Which itself is very demanding job... Moreover as the item storage in the exchange database is such that the attachments and other common mails are stored only once and the users sharing the attachments and mails only points to these items. So showing the correct information on the fly for the user mailbox storage require some time and bit of cpu cycles... Thanks..

Hi!Thanks for the reply. I'd like to clarifymy Exchange setup and its AD Infra, Mailbox Server is in separate box and HUB/CAS is in separate box also. It is not installed in a server (DC)that is holding GC/AD, my Exchange Server wasjoined in the Root Domain and i have more than 40 Subdomains. My Exchange and my Root Domain's DC's are in the same LAN segment. There's no issue or error when i run the ExBPA so i was wondering why it took so long the user's properties to enable and what is the fix for this.Thanks.LRMCP

Hi, First lets try to clarify the issue. 1. EMC has been installed on the Exchange Server, is that true? 2. Please try to use EMS and then run get-mailbox identity xxx |fl, there please check if the hang issue will occur. 3. Please try to create a new mailbox from EMC, please note if the UPN suffix field is empty. 4. Please try to run ExBPA and then check the report, you may post the error information here. 5. Please try to use DCdiag/Netdiag to check if we have network or DC connection related issue. If you have multiple DCs, then please ensure that all the DCs are in the same status. 6. If we try to check other configuration from MMC, will the hang issue occur? Besides, please open event viewer. We need to check if any error event log there. Please try to post the detail error information here. Especially event 2080,please find it and then post the detail information here. Event ID 2080 from MSExchangeDSAccesshttp://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/316300 Regards, Xiu

Hi Xiu, Thanks for the reply. In reply to your question below is the answer First lets try to clarify the issue. 1. EMC has been installed on the Exchange Server, is that true? (YES) 2. Please try to use EMS and then run get-mailbox identity xxx |fl, there please check if the hang issue will occur. (There's no issue on using shell,i prefer to use this than on gui due to the hangup issue) 3. Please try to create a new mailbox from EMC, please note if the UPN suffix field is empty. 4. Please try to run ExBPA and then check the report, you may post the error information here. (There's no error on ExBPA) 5. Please try to use DCdiag/Netdiag to check if we have network or DC connection related issue. If you have multiple DCs, then please ensure that all the DCs are in the same status. (There's no issue on this.) 6. If we try to check other configuration from MMC, will the hang issue occur? (Hang issue will appear only on the user) I saw event 2080 DSAccess in my logs and this made me wonder why those Global Catalog was in my root domain when in fact they are Global Catalog of my subdomains. In my root domain there are 3 DC's and each of them is acting as Global Catalog. I tried set-exchangeserver -staticdomaincontroller and -staticglobalcatalog to force to use only this DCs/GCs located only in my root domain but the issue didnt fix.I'm having as second thought of pulling off the exchange 2007 to their current forest and installed it on the new forest, but im already far on the proj and there's no way to start over again.Looking forward to make this things work. Thanks for help.LRMCP

The exchange needs to pull the DC and GC from your local domain. did you ran /preparedomain switch @ the time on installation in root domain? also Exchange Update Rollup 9 is out. You can give a try to see if this fix your issue http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=55320be2-c65c-48bb-bab8-6335aa7d008c&displaylang=en Vinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|

So what do the 2080 Events say about the suitability of the in-site GCs? It doesnt matter if the GCs are in the root or child domain. What matters is if they are in-site. If Exchange cant find any suitable in-site GCs, it will look for them out of site. I wouldnt hardcode any GCs. Let Exchange find them automatically.

Hi,Please verify if local GC/DC has been listed in the in-site GC/DCs in event 2080.Besides,please ensrue that all the GC/DC have been in the same status. I mean the replication between these GC/DC is normal. We can manully force GC/DC to replicate with each other.Troubleshooting Active Directory Replication Problems http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727057.aspxRegards,Xiu

Hi!Thank you for helping me on this. The issue was fixed by runningset-exchangeserver -staticdomaincontroller and -staticglobalcatalog. This command forced my exchange 2007 to use the specified DC's and GC's in my forest that home multi-subdomains.regards,LRMCP
