HTML Format in Outlook
Hi, I am facing problem with HTML format of the mail. Many times mails in HTML format gets bounced back from mail gateways servers. Can some tell me the root cause of the same, also let me know how to permanatly disable html formt in outlook so that by default it will take either rich text or plain text format. Thanks & Regards Varian Crasto

You would need to provide examples of the bounce backs so we could try and interpret why the remote email servers rejected the mail. Otherwise we would just be guessing. You can manually configure Outlook to set the default message type to plain text. I recommend that to customers who have storage issues as HTML email with no significant formatting still takes up more space than a plain text message. Microsoft seems to move settings around in different versions of Outlook, but in Outlook 2007 it's under Tools -> Options- Mail Format Tab. I believe you can even force the default message type as plain text through a group policy setting, but you would need to get your hands on the Office GPO templates to see for yourself.

Please let me know what could be the reason. Thanks & Regards Varian

Are your Exchange servers set to forward mail to a smart host? The IP of 1.1.1.1 is given, and that doesn't look realistic to me. In either case the hose you aer trying to hand the email to is configued to use a content scanner, and as such is rejecting the email. You will need to go to that website provided to see how you can deal with this, or reach the admin the server(s) rejecting the email and ask them for help. I have never run into SURBL before, but it sounds like it is being overly agressive in scanning the Outlook HTML formatted messages if there are no bad URLs in them.

Vivian,The error is that the url abc@xyz.com is used in spam mails which then are registered in surbl.org if a receiving e-mail server checks this black list it will block your e-mail. So sending e-mail with html isn't the issue but what your typing in the e-mail is.Regards,Johan
