HP Sizing configuration Tool for Exchange
Hi Guys, Does anyone use this tool for configuring Exchange 2007 before? I was in doubts on how accurate is this tool. Based on the tools i have configure 500 mailbox with 100 MB size and default settings,[Cas,Mbx,Hub] it turns out the specs was Dual Core 2.4 Ghz and 6GB RAM required I found the memory required is fine but a Dual Core 2.4 Ghz for Exchange 2007? According to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998874(EXCHG.80).aspx For multiple server roles, you require at least 4 x processor core. I was planning to switch it to a Quad Core 2.0 Ghz Will it be sufficient or 2 x QC 1.86 Ghz Please advice.

If you just had the mailbox server role on this server for 500 users, I'd say a dual core would be fine. If you're implementing a multi-role server (mailbox, CAS, HT, etc) then I'd personally stick with the Microsoft recommendations and implement 4 processor cores.

Thanks for the reply.I have just a concern when Microsoft says 4 processor core does that mean physical core or Intel Quad-core?Furthermore i believe 2x DC (2.0 Ghz processor) is difference from 1 x QC (2.0 Ghz processor)Btw i am implementing a mutlirole server with (Mailbox, CA,HT).

A single quad core processor contains 4 processor cores. Here's further reading if you're interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-core_%28computing%29
