Global Address List Question
Quite frequently I hide users in Exchange 2007. Then when a user starts I un-hide them, however my question is what is the standard time that it takes for a user account to show up in the GAL after they're unhid? Is there any way to throttle this behavior?

Is there any way to throttle this behavior? Hi, It depends upon client where u r seeing the users. In OWA it should immediately be shown, while in outlook if u are not in cache mode then it should immediately show those users in GAL and if you are in cache mode then you Either force the updation of OAB on server and then force the download of OAB in outlook. OR wait for almost 24 hours so that OAB is generated on server, and then client downloads it. Regards,Laeeq Qazi|Team Lead(Exchange + Sharepoint + BES + DynamicsCRM) www.HostingController.com

It can take almost 48 hours for a hidden account to be missing for all users. For those who are using Outlook live, OWA or anything that makes a live lookup on the GAL (Blackberry, Window Mobile etc) the item will be hidden in the time it takes the domain to replicate the change. For those using Outlook in cached mode it can take almost 48 hours. This is because the OAB is only generated by default every 24 hours (which can be changed) and then is only downloaded by Outlook automatically once every 24 hours or when Outlook is restarted. Therefore the worst case scenario is that you hide the item shortly after the OAB is generated, and someone starts Outlook immediately before the next fresh of the OAB is started. That will mean they will not get the updated OAB until the next time Outlook looks for an update. While it is possible to force the OAB to update (get-offlineaddressbook | update-offlineaddressbook) it is not possible to force Outlook to download that updated OAB.
