Ghost Free/Busy system folders
Hi. I'm on the brink of a mass move of users from Ex2003 to Ex2010. Before I do so, I'm just cleaning up some stuff that's been lingering ever since our Ex5.5 decommisioning (around 2001 :P). I have a few sites that only existed within the context of Ex5.5 that still show up in the Free/Busy sub-system folders on our Ex2003 PF stores. I've searched a good bit on how to manually delete these - doesn't seem like a quick adsiedit fix. Anything special to consider here? We've been in Ex2003 native mode for years and have the following infrastructure: - 11 total mailbox and PF servers running ex2003 (split across two datacenters) - 3 frontend servers running ex2003 (also split across datacenters) - two ex2010 edge servers (one in each datacenter) - two ex2010 transport servers (one in each datacenter) - four ex2010 CAS servers (two in each datacenter) - two ex2010 PF servers (one in each datacenter) - 10 node ex2010 DAG (5 servers in each datacenter) I've only migrated around 10% of our employees to the new system due to a couple of brick walls. I'm now just about ready to do the move en masse, but really want to clear up this lingering Ex5.5 junk that's sitting in the ex2003 PF store. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I'd like to clarify the issue with you: 1. You want to cleanup Exchange5.5 users in the environment? 2. You want to cleanup Exchange5.5 public folder? 3. What is the error if you run ExBPA? 4. Is there any error occur when you do the migration? Please post the detail here. Regards, Xiu

Our upgrade path is as follows: - ex5.5 -> ex2000 in the spring of 2001 - ex2000 -> ex2003 in the spring of 2004 - ex2003 -> ex2010 started December 2009 I don't have any Ex5.5 servers left (haven't since migration to ex2000 years ago. But - ever since the migration to ex2000, I've had folders listed under System\Free-Busy in system folders that reference ex5.5 sites that went away during the ex5.5 decommission phase. I'm just looking to get rid of those ghost folders - that's all. No physical presence of servers, and no server references in AD. I just have folders listed that shouldn't be there for sites that don't exist. I'd submit a screencapture but I don't see how to do that in the forum. No errors in ExBPA. The Ex2003 environment looks good besides the Free-Busy site reference. Maybe I should just ignore it/them?

Hi, Please first check if you have any replica created for Exchange 5.5. We may need to verify if these item has been replicated to Exchange Server 2003. If yes, then I think you can just delete that legacy free/busy folder under SCHEDULE+FREE BUSY folder. Before that, do not forget to remove the reolica from exchange 5.5 from replication list. Hi. That's the problem though. I haven't had any ex5.5 servers in 9 years.....I just have the system free/busy folders still sitting there....for ex5.5 sites that again haven't existed in 9 years. When I try to delete those objects, I get prompted for credentials, and nothing I try works. Any other ideas? Thanks Xiu.

Hi, Then please try to use PFDAVAdmin and then check the permission and modify the permission on the folder. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=635be792-d8ad-49e3-ada4-e2422c0ab424&displaylang=en Also please try to backup your Exchange Server and then try to reset the system folder and then check the issue again.
