Getting Security Alert: The name on the certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site when clicking on File in Outlook 2010
I have followed the instructions located here, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940726. It cleared the two initial security alerts we received when starting Outlook 2010. Now we get one when clicking File. Has anyone seen this? Thanks for the help. Loren ErwinLoren

I notice those instructions don't include fixing the ECP virtual directory. Check the settings from Get-OwaVirtualDirecotry and Get-EcpVirtualDirectory and use the corresponding Set commands to fix the URLs to see if that fixes your issue.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Ed, Thanks for the assistance. Question, what file in the virtual directory to I point each to? In the KB article, each of the Set commands points to a file in the folder, not just the folder? LorenLoren

Do: Get-EcpVirtualDirectory | FL Identity,ExternalURL,InternalURL That should tell you whether or not they're configured properly. For example: https://owa.company.com/OWA https://owa.company.com/ecp Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

No it doesn't. Just the standard security cert name mismatch.Loren

Now we get one when clicking File. Hi Loren, Do you mean the error will be appeared when you click "File" in the Menu bar? Which certificate do you use? Internal CA or self-signed one? Are Outlook 2010 domain-joined? Please create a new user to configurate the Outlook to test. Frank, Thanks for the assistance. To answer your questions in order. 1. yes, File on the menu bar. 2. self-signed 3. yes, domain joined. I created a new user and tested and it does not get any certificate errors. LorenLoren

I am still getting the certificate warning. It seems new users aren't having the issue, just ones that were on the network before the upgrade to Exchange 2010. How can I resolve this? Is there a way to clear the certificates from the user's profile? Thanks for any assistance.Loren

Hi Lerwin, Could you please re-create the Outlook profile for an affected user to test? Control Panel->Mail->Show Profiles...->Remove Please also check whether there is any old certificate in the Certificates MMC. Frank, Thanks for the help. I have recreated my windows profile on a terminal server and don't get the cerficiate error. I will check the certificate mmc, but not sure where in the Cert MMC to look. Which of the subfolders would I be looking in? LorenLoren
