General Upgrade process where Sharepoint 3 and MSOff2K13 (from Office 365 - with file cache in use) - poor performance needs troubleshooting

Morning folks.

I have SharePoint v3 running with lots of EXCEL sheet content - each file containing links to another fileserver share where a sole spreadsheet (password protected with 'open read only' button available) resides.

name of each SP content: 'ACL Cost worksheet' concatenated with '<Customername>'

Attempts to open Read-Only any of the SharePoint cost worksheets fires up a link outside the SharePoint instance to another fileserver where a password-protected worksheet list of product names 'lives' results in quick response (SharePoint, the User workstation, and the fileserver all reside on the same Ethernet Gig L2 switch).

If the SharePoint sheet is closed and attempts to re-open it using the same (maybe) procedure result in excruciating waits sometimes resulting in 'Pitchforks & Torches' ... (Where is that Da*ned IT Guy - my machine is locked.)

;-)

SharePoint Server: WIN2K3 (bad - I know)

Fileserver: WIN2K3 r2 (bad - I know)

workstation: WIN2K7 pro (running O-365)

Any ideas?

Hi dca,

Based on your description, >>If the SharePoint sheet is closed and attempts to re-open it using the same (maybe) procedure result in excruciating waits sometimes resulting in 'Pitchforks & Torches' ... <<, my understanding is that you can open the file normally at first time, then you close it and reopen the file, you won't open it directly.

Did this issue appear in all users' environment?

I suggest you do an experiment and provide the result here.

Please open the excel file and close it first, then reopen it after 5-10 mins.

If it still cannot open the file normally, take more time to wait until it opens normally.

Please tell me how long time did you take to open the file at the second time, if possible be a bit more precise to explain the issue. I'm glad to help and follow up your reply.
