GAL problems - Cant view members of mail groups..
Hello Technet, This is my first post here. I dont like to ask for help, I would like to be able to fix things my self, stupid and way to proud to ask for help :-) My problem is that when we open a mail that was sent to a mailing group, via the "lookup outlook contact". this error message is displayed. This happens in Outlook 2003,2007 and 2010, the error messages are just a bit different. Could not find a contact with this e-mail adress. "This error can occur if you click Look Up Outlook Contact for an e-mail address of a user who is not part of your local Contacts list. If you have a Microsoft Exchange server e-mail account, this error may appear because the Look Up Outlook Contact option searches only the local Contacts folder and does not search the Global Address List. To avoid this error, right-click the name, and then click Outlook Properties. For more information see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 813607." This started after I aded a second domain controller in our forrest. INFO ON OUR SETUP Primary DC: Name = DC1 Holds all FSMO Roles win2k3 SP3 10.70.0.x network. Exchange: Name = ExSvr Win2k8 R2 Exchange 2007 SP2 10.70.0.x Second DC: Name= DC2 win2k8 DNS, DHCP 10.10.0.x I have not created a new subnet or site in Active Directory and I think it migth be the problem, but I need to know before I start changing things. If you are putting another domain controller in to a different subnet/site, then it should really be seperated by Sites and Services in AD. Exchange 2007 is much more dependant on sites and services than previous versions. Run the EXBPA from the toolbox to begin with. If you are putting another domain controller in to a different subnet/site, then it should really be seperated by Sites and Services in AD. Thank you for your reply sir. I Know I sound like I no clew what im doing :) But the reason it is configured like this, I dont have 100% authority yet. So I cant get "my way"/"The recommended Microsoft ". Untill I can answer with 100 % certanty why we have problems with our current setup :) Exchange 2007 is much more dependant on sites and services than previous versions. Run the EXBPA from the toolbox to begin with. Simon. Simon Butler, Exchange MVP. http://blog.sembee.co.uk , http://exbpa.com/ Opened the EXBPA/ Best Pratices analyzer I connect to DC1. I ran the "Health Check". I have these "Errors" Active Directory Forest Write DACL inhertit (group) :Active Directory Forest "The Write DACL inherit (group) right for the Exchange Enterprise Servers group should be removed from the root of the domain." Organisation: Sitename Transport rule does not have any body exceptions for disclaimer Organisation: Sitename Transport rule 'Sitename Disclaimer' does not have any body exception set for disclaimer. One of the best practice for using Exchange Server 2007 Transport Rules disclaimer is to ensure that you have a body exception for a disclaimer rule to ensure the disclaimer is only applied to a message once. Junk store treshold not configured Organisation: Sitename Junk Store threshold is currently configured to move messages to recipient's Junk folder when they have a Spam Confidence Level (SCL) value of 8. This is the default value for the Junk Store threshold. However, the recommended value is 4. You can configure SCL thresholds by using the Set-OrganizationConfig cmdlet in the Exchange Management Shell. Admin Group Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT) Server:Exsrv Microsoft Filter pack not installed Server:Exsrv Microsoft Filter Pack is not found on server ExSrv.Domainname.local. It is recommended that you install Microsoft Filter Pack on server ExSrv.Domainname.local so that Exchange Search can index and search Microsoft Office 2007 attachments. Application log size Server:Exsrv As a best practice, the size of the 'Application' log on server ExSrv.Domainname.local. should be increased. The current size is 20MB. For servers running Microsoft Exchange, a size of 40MB or more is recommended. Consider implementing storage quotas Server:Exsrv Storage quotas are not implemented for mailbox store 'Mailbox Database' on server Exsrv. Implementing quotas can improve database management and operations. Crash upload logging disabled Server:Exsrv Exchange fatal error information on server ExSrv.Domainname.local is not automatically sent to Microsoft for analysis. It is recommended that you enable this feature through the Exchange System Manager. Firewall is enabled Server:Exsrv Windows Firewall is enabled on server ExSrv.Domainname.local. Ensure that the ports required for client connectivity are accessible. Outlook Connection Range Server:Exsrv All versions of Outlook are allowed to access server ExSrv.Domainname.local. It is recommended that older versions be blocked. Admin Group: First administrative Group Site folder server not found Admin Group: First administrative Group The site-wide public folder database for administrative group 'First Administrative Group' was not detected within this administrative group. The server may be unreachable or the public folder store does not exist. Public folder store: CN=Public folder database,CN=First Storage Group,CN=InformationStore,CN=ExSrv,CN=Servers,CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT),CN=Administrative Groups,CN=Sitename,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=KontronDK,DC=local. I hope my paranoia in hiding server and site names does not create any problems. I have done so with utmost care to detail, and trying not to make any errors.
