Fresh install of Exchange Server - Information Store will not start
I am in the process of creating a new domain with a 2008 DC and Exchange 2003 (I only have 32 bit machines). The DC is created, and Exchange 2003 is installed on Server 2003 but the Information Store doesn't start. Event id 7001 is listed in the system log, with the following description: The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service depends on the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service which failed to start because of the following error: The operation completed successfully. And the other 7001 error listed in the system log has the following description: The Microsoft Exchange MTA Stacks service depends on the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service which failed to start because of the following error: The operation completed successfully. It's weird though: “the operation completed successfully”. Most of the Exchange related services don't start, and when I try to restart Microsoft Exchange System Attendant the restart fails. -jj

Did you install SP2 for Exch 2003? http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=535bef85-3096-45f8-aa43-60f1f58b3c40&displaylang=en Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

I tried. When I ran it and tried to select the Upgrade option I received an error: Multiple components cannot be assigned the requestioned action(s) because: -The local domain configuration is not up-to-date. You must run setup with the "/DomainPrep" switch within this domain. If you have already done this with the current version of Setup, then you must wait for replication to complete. Consult your documentation for details. I'm not sure what setup to run and were. -jj

Go ahead and run (or rerun domainprep). See link: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997526(EXCHG.65).aspx http://support.microsoft.com/kb/274737 If this doesn't work for you, then you may have some AD replication issues.Tim Harrington - Catapult Systems - http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com

Hi jjwolven, Any updates on this issue? Do you follow Tim’s suggestions to have a try? If the problem persists, please check your Exchangesetup logs, you can check the Exchangesetup logs by this way: The System disk\ExchangeSetupLogs\ExchangeSetup If there is any error, please paste the related log in your next post. With this information, we can help you more efficiently. Thanks, Evan
