Free trusted SSL certificate for MS Exchange 2010
I have an Exchange 2010 that's working internally and I'm in a need of activating IMAP service externally in order to retrieve voice mail by a third party VoIP application. This third party retrieves the Voice mail only through IMAP and can't connect to it since it works only internally. I found a website that provides free SSL certificate for use but I'm not sure if class1 certificate will work exchange and let the IMAP be accessible externally! Please advise! ThanksMohammed JH

Beware that some 'free' SSL certificates are not signed by a commonly trusted public CA so most clients may not trust that certificate with them having the Root Ca certificate manually installed in them. Verizon is one example of this. I believe RapidSSL still offers a 30-day trial certificate which is signed by their publicly trusted CA.Jeff Schertz | Microsoft Solutions Architect - Polycom | Lync MVP

Thanks Jeff, Basically i'm using Startcom free SSL Certificate which seems to be OK! I'm not quite sure if it's a trusted CA. The thing is I couldn't import the certificate into my Exchange and failed to complete the pending request. The instructions Startcom has provided relying on IIS while I used Exchange to create the CSR and the certificate says pending even after I complete the process. Do I have to do it using the IIS instead? Mohammed JH

Spend the US$60/year on a cert that's issued by a public CA. You'll save yourself a lot of trouble. If your time is worth anything the cost is negligible, not to mention the aggravation of dealing with all the "how come this doesn't work" from users. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Is it UC certificate ? How many SAN does it support ? and which provider is it ? From my experince with Exchange I think that in order to have OA, Outlook anywhere or IMAP I need to have Autodiscover.mydomain.com and mail.domain.com plus Internal server FQDN And Netbios name of the server it self in the Certificate! Otherwise Outlook will have various problems retriving the settings from the exchange. I got it working now with CA signed Certificate but each client that I have to setup I'll need to manually import the CA root certificate to their machines!Mohammed JH
