Free/Busy information in Exchange 2003 missing on some servers...
Hi! We have three Exchange 2003 SP2 mailbox servers (migrated from Exchange 5.5) and two FE servers. The servers are located in three Administrative Groups. It seems we are having some problems with the Free/Busy information. On a new Exchange server we recently installed (only a few test-mailboxes are located on it so far) we cannot retrieve any Free/Busy information for any users - whether they are located on the same server or on another. In the logs on the new server I found event 8276 and I have modified Active Directory according to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555406and http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;284200. We still get 8276 every night around 2 AM and in addition we get event 8207. Why am I still getting 8276 when the siteFolderServer has been changed to an 'alive' server? From what I can see som people have had luck resetting the System Folders (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822444), but I am not sure what the impact will be or if it will solve my problem. What exactly happens when doing a system folder reset? Is resetting the system folders the correct next step to take? Thanks in advance! /Michael

Hi, Resetting the system folders is not the correct step to take it you can see free/busy information on some servers. Did you create a replica of the schedule+ free/busy system folder on the new server? Leif

I have added the new server to the 'Replication' Tab - for Free/Busy and several other PF's, but when I view the 'Public Folders' for the server in ESM they are not listed. It seems the replication is nut running/working but I can't find any related events in the logs. /Michael

Now I have tried tracking messages sent to the Public Folder Store on the new server. It appears that all messages to that server are stopping at one of the FE-server (which is in the same Administrative Group). The last message in the tracking log is: 'Message transferred to exch2.domain.com through SMTP'. The target server is exch3.domain.com. When running tracking with 'server' set to 'exch2 and 'recipients' set to Public Folder Store (exch3) the last message is: SMTP: Message Queued for Local Delivery. So it seems that the messages are stuck on exch2, but when I look in the queue on that server everything looks fine - nothing i queued for exch3.

Hi, And you can telnet from the fe server to the new server on port 25? This might help: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;842273 Leif

Yes - I have no problem telnetting the server from the FE and incoming mails are routed to the new server without problems. Actually it seems that the problem was that Routing Group Connectors were configured with the FE servers as remote bridgeheads and as they do not support Integrated Authentication the PF replication stopped at those servers. I have changed the remote bridgehead to be the new server and now replication is starting. I hope that will also make the Free/Busy work.
