Free/Busy between different exchange boxes in different forests
Hi
We have 2 separate exchange servers on 2 different forests. We want to share free/busy information between the 2 forests so users are aware of other forest users' schedule when creating meetings in outlook.
I read that Interorg replication tool can be used but....
1. We need a tool such as FIM 2010 OR MIIS 2003 to create contacts on opposite forest FIRST?
OR
2. Interorg replication tool is stand alone and will take care of everything without the need for an indentity management package.
Thanks

Are these Exchange 2010 forests or legacy versions of Exchange?
If 2010 you can use cross forest availability service. Just to share free/busy you don't need ILM. If you want to share GAL you need ILM.

1: You will have to Pay for FIM 2010 and MIIS 2003
2: InterOrg is free :)Gulab | MCTS-MCITP Messaging: 2010 | MCTS-MCITP Messaging: 2007 | MCC 2011 | Skype: Gulab.Mallah

These forests do not have exchange 2010.
But do I still have to go there and create contacts on both forests either by FIM2010/2003 OR OR OR manually by hand?
Thanks

If it is just free/buy then you don't need ILM or MIIS. If you want to sync GALs then you need ILM or MIIS or create contact manually. below articles are good reference.

Here is what the first article says (KB238573) -->
Note For each mailbox in the publisher server that you want to replicate free and busy information to, a corresponding custom recipient must exist
on the subscriber server. The SMTP address of the mailbox is the unique key that is used to match mailboxes to custom recipients.
Would you please advise?

Sorry My bad...I was not thinking straight.
I was thinking free/busy part of PF in 2003 and to sync PF you don't need contacts. Free/busy is associated with user accounts, so yes you need contacts. Created them via a script or ILM.
