Free/Busy / availablity service between multiple forests
Hi We have 5 forests (all managed separately). They have 2k7, 2k10 and 2k3 exchanges :-( FIM 2010 was used to sync the contacts between these AD domains. The eventual goal is to see free/buys info in outlook for users in other sites. Would you please advise on this? Here is what I know ???? Required: I read about the sites needing UCC certificates for autodiscover & OWA?? Required: Autodiscover being available inside and outside Required: Cmdletes to be run on exch2k7/2k10 sites Required: mail enabled account on each domain with minimal rights ???? Required: Trust between forests involved??? Having different versions of exchange throws me in a loop.

For 2007/2010 Free/busy is provided by availability service. to configure availability service cross forest see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125182.aspx For 2003 Free/busy provided by public folders. Use Iorepl

I got that part but do I need a UCC certificate for both autodiscover AND owa? That's the part that I am confused about. How about the trust?

You need a trust for 2003 ioRepl. Availability service can be configured with trusts or without trusts http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125182(EXCHG.80).aspx UCC cert depends on are you allowing users to access owa externally then yes you need one.

UCC/SAN certificates are the recommended certificate to use for Exchange 2007/2010.. But like LMurthy wrote, it depends on the business needs if you are publishing OWA/Autodiscover externally? Hi OWA is pusbished outside and all sites have valid verisign certs on them. However I don't know if there is a need to make any certificate changes / publish Autodiscover outside.

Hello, Share with you a good article about how to configure the availability service cross the forests: http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2011/03/04/3412075.aspx Thanks, Simon

Pretty good article. However it doesn't tell me how to handle different email suffixes. For example the remote forest is campus1.local however the email suffix is @campus1.edu I am not sure how to run add-availabilityaddressspace command when email suffix is different from domain/forest name. :-( I guess I open a different thread for that as the article was nice.
