Forwarding mail for departed user
An employee has left our company and their supervisor wants the email for the departed user to get forwarded to them for 6 months. We wondered if we could remove the departed user's mailbox, and then add the departed users smtp address to the supervisor's mailbox so that mail to this departed user would keep coming in to him. Is that a possible scenario?Orange County District Attorney

That'll work. It will be the supervisor's responsibility to forward the email. If he sets his Out of Office, the people sending email to the ex-employee may wonder why they're getting out of office messages from him.

Thanks for the note. Good point on the Out of Office bit. Never thought about that!Orange County District Attorney

I think it would be better to assign full access permissions on the departed user's mailbox to the supervisor and add the mailbox as a secondary in Outlook.-- Ed Crowley MVP"There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems.". That would probably be less confusing. Especially since the supervisor is going to have to check the mail headers to know for sure if an email was originally addressed to him or the ex-employee.

Yes, there can be some problems like friends mentioned above. I agree with Ed, a better way is give permission to the supervisor and keep their mailbox independently.
