Formula for a cell from a drop-down list

Hi There,

I'm wanting to know if there can be a formula for the item listed in a drop-down box. If I were to enter a formula (without selecting the particular item in the drop down list with a mouse or keyboard) to select an item, say the 3rd item from the drop down list in excel, what would be the formula ? If it's even possible ?

Thank you in advance !

Re: changing the selected item in a combo box on a worksheet

Changing the "linked" cell for a combo box can change the selected item in the CB.
You can change the linked cell using VBA or possibly Power Shell.
A formula in Excel can only change the cell containing the formula.

Hi Niranjan0292,

I agree with James, your request could be done via VBA code, not a formula. If you want to get it via VBA, I recommend you post the question to the MSDN forum for Excel

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?forum=exceldev&filter=alltypes&sort=lastpostdesc

The reason why we recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us. Thank you for your understanding.
