Formatting of MailFromName in Exchange 2007
Hi,I am having a bit of an issue with 'from email addresses' now that we have changed to Exchange 2007. The problem is that I have a number of external applications that are set up to send emails via Exchange, these supply all the details such as the from address, to address, subject, attachments etc. They dont however supply a MailFromName which in the past hasn't been an issue, I have been advised that Exchange 2007 expects quotation marks around the MailFromName and if it dosent have them it attempts to derive the MailFromName, from the MailFromAddress....So if I for example set the address that the mail is coming from (effectivly what would be used as a reply address) to myTest@me.co.uk Exchange turns this into mytest[@me.co.uk myTest@me.co.uk] So if the recipient tries to reply to it, it uses@me.co.uk myTest@me.co.ukas the address!!!Finally... my question is....Is there anyway of setting Exchange 2007 to treat 'From Email Addresses' the same as 2003, so that I dont have to amend the applications to always set a MailFromName.Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hello,Does below KB help you? If not, can you explain the things in more detail step by step with an example?3rd Party Application or Mail Server May Fail to Send To or Relay Mail Through Exchange Server 20073rd Party Application or Mail Server May Fail to Send To or Relay Mail Through Exchange Server 2007http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944302Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Hi, I think that I am able to reproduce your issue on my lab when sending message by using following method:==========================================================Ehlo250-E2K7.exchangelabs.com Hello [127.0.0.1]250-SIZE250-PIPELINING250-DSN250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES250-STARTTLS250-X-ANONYMOUSTLS250-AUTH GSSAPI NTLM250-X-EXPS GSSAPI NTLM250-8BITMIME250-BINARYMIME.250-CHUNKING250 XEXCH50Mail from:abc@abc com250 2.1.0 Sender OKRcpt to:administrator@exchangelabs.com250 2.1.5 Recipient OKData354 Start mail input; end with <CRLF>.<CRLF>from:abc@abc.com<abc@abc.com>Test mail.===============================================In the above mail, E2K7 will see the from Display name as From: "abc@" <abc.comabc@abc.com> However E2K3 will see it correctly as From: abc@abc.com<abc@abc.com> I think the issue occurs because the Exchange 2007 Transport service behavior is different with Exchange 2003 SMTP service. I do not find a method on Exchange server to get the issue solved. You may have to amend the application to send message like below: From: abc@abc.com <abc@abc.com> Mike

Hi Mike,Yes that is exactly the issue I am having. Thanks for taking the time to look at this, I am surprised that there is no way of setting this in 2k7... it seems to be a pretty fundamental change, I would have hoped that there was some way of making this backwardly compatible.Cheers for your help
