Forest functional level is 2000 with Exchange 2010 SP1 installed
I need someone to please explain to me why I'm looking at a forest functional level of Windows 2000 and Domain functional level of 2003 with Exchange 2010 SP1 running for the past year. I would include a snap shot of what I'm seeing from the DC's and in domains and trusts reporting that the FFL is 2000. How is this possible?Doug Swanek

Hi Doug It's not supported, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it won't work. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff728623.aspxTony

What do you mean, " doesn't necessarily mean it won't work"? I thought it was impossible to install Exchange 2010 SP1 in a 2000 forest functional level. Are you saying that you can install Exchange 2010 in an environment with a FFL of 2000 but it's just not supported? This environment really baffles me. I've tried installing Ex. 2010 in the past with a FFL with 2000 and the installation failed. Why did this installation succeed? I didn't do the installation, I'm running a health check. Doug Swanek

I haven't tried it Doug, but it is fairly common for Microsoft to state that something is not supported when in fact it works perfectly well. They do this to restrict the level of testing they need to do when making changes to the product. Also, they typically exclude technologies that are out of mainstream support (e.g. Windows 2000). Whichever way you look at it, it would be good to upgrade the FFL in your environment (assuming it's feasible), to bring it back into a supported state.Tony
