Folder Permissions Keep Changing
Hello,...I have a network running server 2003. The 2 main groups I'm working with is "StandardUsers" for a basic user have various read-only rights & full control on their own home drive. The 2nd group is called "SystemModerators" which are not Domain Admins, but do have full control over many shared folders....I add the SystemModerators group to a folder & them full control for, "This folder, subfolders, and files" I check the "Apply these permissions to objects and/or containers..." & click OK. I then check the box, "Replace permission entries on all childe objects..." & click apply. ...It begins the process of applying these permissions to all the subfolders & files. It's looking good - I close all of that out once it's done. I go back in & check the permissions on that folder & all is well - That group has full control, exactly as I set it. I then look at some of the subfolders (Say 2 deep) & it has changed the permission for that group to "This folder only". I can't understand why it's doing this?? Then on that folder, I uncheck inherit from parent the permisson entries that apply to child objects..." & select remove instead of copy. I then recheck that same box & it populates the permissions again - But once again, it states this folder only. I'm having a hard time understanding why it would do this? I have given this group full control on a whole partition & it still does this & I don't know why. Does anyone have clue why this would happen? I had asked on one forum & they said that my Active Directory was corrupt & needed to reinstall. After many failed attempts to resolve this - I finally reinstalled windows. This did not resolve the issue. (Arrrg!) Thanks,- roystreet

Hi Roy Check the ownership of these folders, if you are the admin, check "replace ownership on subfolders" Also check if any effective permissions are set. And do not uncheck "inherit from parent folder". Make sure they are all checked in these folders and subfolders. Also make sure these couple of folders are not EFS encrypted. Regards
