Finding a MAPI client for use with Exchange 2007
We have just upgraded to SBS 2008 Std (with Exchange 2007), and its all gone pretty well. I do have one small problem though. I have a machine on my network running Windows XP Pro that acts as a voice mail server for our telephone system. Prior to using EX-2007 we were using Exchange 2003, I had an old copy of Outlook 98 that I used as it would allow our Voicemail Software (Voicemail Lite from Avaya) to send notification emails. I could not use any version of Outlook more recent because of the restriction in Outlook XP (and above) that prevented programs from sending emails with out an acknowledgement from the logged on user. So, can anyone recommend a way to get round this? Can you make Exchange 2007 work with Outlook 97 or 98? , or is there another compatible MAPI client available? VM Lite will only work with MAPI, in order to utilise SMTP we would have to upgrade to VM Pro, which frankly we dont need. Any ideas? Thanks, PaulPaul

If you find that Outlook97/98 wont work, you have a couple of options. ( I assume you referring to the blocking in Outlook that prevents programmatick access to the GAL) I would check out: http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup.htm#autosec

Quote: “can anyone recommend a way to get round this?” You can contact support from Avaya, see if there’s any method to combine Voicemail Lite with recent outlook versions that are compatible with exchange 2007 Quote: “Can you make Exchange 2007 work with Outlook 97 or 98? , or is there another compatible MAPI client available?” Outlook 97 or 98 can’t be run against exchange 2007 Outlook and Exchange Server Compatibility It’s also possible to use UM (Unified Messaging) with Voice Mail feature that is powered by exchange 2007 product on the SBS 2008 server. The following is the requirement: · A dedicate machine (Not a Virtual Machine) for deploying unified messaging role, which would need IP gateway in place · UM functionality will be achieved in SBS 2008 by provisioning the users with an Exchange Server Enterprise CAL in addition to a SBS CALPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
