Find message in mailstore or mailbox by messageid
Hey everyone. Using Exchange 2007 SP2. I have a user that swears they didn't receive a particular email. Message tracking shows that it was was delivered to their mailbox though. We've used Outlook to search through everything but it doesn't come up. Is there a way to in EMC or EMS to seach the mailstore (or event the mailbox) by messageid and find out where that message is (i.e. what mailbox/folder)?

Did you check the dumpster? If message tracking shows it was delivered, it was.

Yep, we've checked there as well. Our deleted items policy is 30 days and this occurred a couple weeks ago. I've just done another search of the user's entire mailbox and it doesn't show up.

if you know the subject ( from message tracking), you could use the Export-Mailbox command to search the mailboxes based on that filter.

THanks for the help Andy. I do have the subject but since the message was sent to multiple people and it arrived for all the other people except one I think it would be better to search by messageID. Do you have an example of the export-mailbox command I can use to find the message? Keep in mind that I don't want to copy the message to another mailbox, I just want to find where in the user's mailbox or where in the entire mailstore that messageID is.

You'll have to filter by the allowed keywords or recipient, subject etc... You can generate a report file or copy or copy to a pst etc....
