We're using Exchange 2003. Is there a way to filter OUTBOUND email by country (ie; .cn,.ru)?Thanks,Russ

Hi Russ,As far as I know you have to find 3d party app/write code for this.Regards,Zoltnhttp://www.clamagent.org - Free Antivirus for Exchange

This function can be achieved by Delivery Restriction function on the SMTP connector. We can create a query-based distribution group based on users Country attribute, and add the group into the Delivery Restriction tab on the SMTP connector
Notes: This kind of action will affect exchange mail flow performance
Notes: Please make sure that exchange server has been applied Service Pack 2, if not, please see KB 895407
When users send mail by using SMTP Connectors that have delivery restrictions set based on distribution group membership, the message categorizer must expand the membership of the distribution group, obtain the full list of DNs of the members, and then compare the list of DNs to the list senders DNs. An access operation or a deny operation occurs when a DN on both lists match

Hi,If I'm correct we are not talking about recipents exist in the AD and has Country property. We are talking about external e-mail addresses with e-mail domainfrom various countries. This addresses doesn't exists in the AD.In this case you cannot use query based distribution group.Regards,Zoltnhttp://www.clamagent.org - Free Antivirus for Exchange

But Russ mentioned "outbound" mail, so looks like he has domain with various postfixes based on country name like company.co.cn comapny.co.ru etc... assigned to smtp addresses of internal users.
Russ,
Can you confirm if we misunderstood the question?

Sorry for the confusion. We are trying to prevent anyone from within the company from sending to various countries, namely for ITAR compliance. So any email trying to get to .cn, .ru, etc is blocked. Thanks for your help,Russ

So, what you want is, to block the mails that are sent to some specific external domain (*.cn or *.ru), right?
Create two SMTP connectors
Con1: (Address space: *.cn or *.ru)
Con2: (Address space: *)
Uncheck all Allowed types in the Content Restrictions tab on the Con1, so all mails sent to *.cn or *.ru will be blocked
NDR: You dont have the permission to send
