Failed recipient message - Active Directory or Exchange Server?
I am having a problem with a past user that is somehow buried deep within Active Directory. It happens whenI (or anyone)attempts to create a Meeting Request in Outlook. When the Meeting Request is sent, I immediately get a message back from the System Administrator: Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients. Subject: Review final Scope of Work proposal Sent: 2/13/2007 2:47 PM The following recipient(s) cannot be reached: Tim Munson on 2/13/2007 2:47 PM The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address. <tacsurv.com #5.1.1> The user referenced was active on our network at one time, but is longer with our company and I cannot find reference to his name anywhere when searching through AD. This user was deleted and gone before I arrived, but here is the information that I have gathered so far: 1) At some point, he was given Administrator privilages in Exchange to do some email testing 2) The undeliverable message above onlyoccurs when a specific recipient is included in the meeting request (call her Jane Doe) 3) Jane Doe currently has domain admin privilages on the network 4) I have reviewed Jane Doe's account properties, and I cannot find any mention of the user. 5) I re-created the user (and mailbox) in Active Directory to see if the messages would stop, and they did. I removed the user, along with the mailbox, and the problem came right back. Any ideas? Is this buried in Exchange, or is this an Active Directory issue?

I was able to fix the problem by performing the following steps: 1) Re-create the user account in Active Directory as you normally would, as well as the user's mailbox (this would be the person who is no longer with the company). 2) Next, locate the specific recipient that creates the undeliverable message (Jane Doe) 3) Open Jane Doe's Outlook client and add the re-created user as a Delegate. To do this, go to Tools --> Options, and click on the Delegate tab. Add the re-created user. 4) Close and exit Outlook completely. Not sure if it makes a difference, but instead of clicking on the 'X" on the top right corner, go to File --> Exit to close. 5) Open Outlook again, go to Tools --> Options, and remove the user that was just added. File --> Exit to close Outlook. 6) Delete the re-created user account and mailbox from Active Directory. Hope this helps!
