Exporting custom properties of message items within a mailbox
Background: user mailbox on Exchange 2010 SP1. We use Enterprise Vault for archiving, and we need to produce items from a user's mailbox. These items show up as stub objects within the Exchange mailbox, but the corresponding item does not appear in the user's associated EV vault. Problem: the user's mailbox contains EV stub items that are shortcuts to items contained in some other EV archive and not in their own archive. This can happen by dragging/dropping a vaulted item from one mailbox to another, or by sending a vaulted item to someone as an attachment (instead of retrieving the full item and forwarding that on). Question: When looking at the properties of a vaulted item, there is a PT_STRING8 Named Prop called "Archive ID". Is there a way to export this property for all message items (or just vaulted items by specifying a filter on message class, if possible) within the mailbox? For each item, we'd like to get the date/time, sender, recipients, and subject as a TXT/CSV file. By getting the Archive ID, we will then be able to identify what archive contains the items in question. Any idea if this is possible?

Hi, Have you spoken to Symantec product support? Secondly I would personally stop using the product for stubbing, there's really no need now with the disk and mailbox size improvements in Exchange 2010. Stubbing is horrible it's a legacy solution from Exchange 2000/2003 days. I'd get rid of it. http://blogs.technet.com/b/perryclarke/archive/2010/08/13/archiving-questions-do-tiered-storage-and-stubbing-make-sense.aspx OliverOliver Moazzezi | Exchange MVP, MCSA:M, MCITP:Exchange 2010, BA (Hons) Anim | http://www.exchange2010.com | http://www.cobweb.com | http://twitter.com/OliverMoazzezi

If it helps, just ignore the vaulting aspect as it is not a vaulting question. Is there a way to export MAPI properties from messages within a mailbox? We have a second tag (0x817B0102) we need to look for to identify messages sent with voting buttons in addition to the first tag (0x80A3001E).

You should be able to do this with EWS: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd877045(v=EXCHG.140).aspx Oliver Moazzezi | Exchange MVP, MCSA:M, MCITP:Exchange 2010, BA (Hons) Anim | http://www.exchange2010.com | http://www.cobweb.com | http://twitter.com/OliverMoazzezi
