Export all mail older then X days/months to PST. Is it possible in Exchange 2003?
Hi all, I was wondering if it's possible to automatically export mail from users mailboxes, older then X days or months to a pst file. I know i could use the archiving feature in Office Outlook but i whant this to be done at server side. The Exchange server used is a Exchange 2003 standard version. Tnx. Regards, Marco

You should be able to do this with exmerge. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=2743 -Matt

As Matt says you can use ExMerge, however be aware that ExMerge has a 2GB limit and therefore be very careful when exporting to watch the PST file size since ExMerge will not tell you when you reach the limit, instead it will just corrupt the PST and you will not know until you go to open it.If you are open to 3rd party products check out Lucid8's DigiScope http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp as it supports PST overflow, i.e. if you use ANSI the limit is 2GB, and if Unicode its 20GB, however either way when you reach a limit a new PST will be spawned. Also in version 4.0 there is an "On Find" option which is short means that you can determine what is to happen when finding an item that meets your criteria and in production servers ON FIND you can Export to PST or MSG, Delete, Purge or Export to PST or MSG and then Delete or Purge from source. This is just one of the things that DigiScope can do for you, i.e. you can also open ANY offline Exchange Database so that you can Browse, Search, Export an entire database or just specific Mailboxes, folders and items to PST & MSG, or if desired you can import direct from any offline EDB into ANY production exchange server, i.e. 2003 --> 2007 --> 2010 etc. Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline EDB's and Live Exchange Servers with Lucid8's DigiScope

Hi all, Thanks for the feedback. I thought of Exmerge but as some of the mailboxes are pretty big i struggle with the 2GB size limit. We are testing GFI Mail Archiver as a solution in conjuction with retention rules. This looks the best way at this point. Tnx again. Regards, Marco
