Hello all, This one looks like itll need exchange/AD expert though ANY help is appreciated! Weve had a dodgy Exchange 2003 server for a while and are trying to move away from it. Exchange 2007 was installed and then uninstalled due to hardware requirements, it would not uninstall properly due to public a folder replication and ADSI edit was used to delete 1 entry then 2007 uninstalled without error. Now a new exchange 2003 SP2 server is installed co existing with the original 2003 server, but we are having serious problem. Error on both Windows Server Std SP2 Exchange 2003 SP2 servers application logs. Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeAL Event Category: Address List Synchronization Event ID: 8325 Date: 11/16/2007 Time: 5:09:15 PM User: N/A Computer: EXG Description: The service can't work properly because the Policy 'CN=Mailbox Enable User,CN=System Policies,CN=First Organization,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=com' has an invalid Filter Rule (purportedSearch). Use the Exchange System Management tool to correct this problem. While this error exist new users, contacts and groups won't receive mail information necessary to them to work properly. This relates to the Global address book, I think since the Exchange 2007 install and uninstall weve been receiving this error and having these troubles. With the above problem anyone added to the exchange server does not show up in the GAL! Does the error above look like an exchange issue or domain issue? This is incredible important for me to sort ASAP so any suggestions are welcome. Regards Tom.

Hi Knightly, we've gone back from 2007 to try to impliment 2003 again, I don't thinkthat article holds any steps to help my situation, unless i'm missing something painfully obvious??? Sounds like exchange 07 can't find the public folder that holds the OAB. Are you replicating your system public folders from 03 to 07?

Hi Tom, Kindly check the RUS service status if not restart the service...since RUS service is removed in Exchange 2007. And also check whether u have appropriate permission Just have luk on the link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/254030/

Are you seeing any other symtoms like issues creating users or not seeing free/busy time?

Are you able to edit permissions to the system folders? Or if not at least view them? what are the permissions for the oab?

Ok,i'm viewing the entries in offline address book inthe system folders andI get error ID no: 80004005 when trying to view client permission (and cannot make any changes), I can view the Administrative rights which are all inherited, the admin account has full allow permissions but I stillcannot delete the object, it just keeps asking for a username and password.All of the objects are old anyway I don't know why they are still there? AlI I need to do is create the GAL and OAL, this is a nightmare! Thanks for helping.

Hi Knightly, those instructions are just for public folders, not system folders? I agree though I think something has seriously gone wrong with pemissions somewhere, I can't find a way to reset the system folder permissions or rebuild them safely? Thanks for you help.

I have an Exchange 2003 environment (Native) and I was gettingt the same errors. When I created new email user accounts it didn't populate any of the Exchange information that I had setup in my Default Policy. It worked previously but I installed a number of hotfixes and did a bunch of tweaks and noticed that it stopped working. When you use ADSI edit to look at the "PuportedSearch" of 'CN=Mailbox Enable User,CN=System Policies,CN=First Organization,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=com' you will see that the Attribute looks something like this: (&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(mailnickname=*)(homeMdb=*) If you look at the brackets you will see that the ending bracket is missing. Add it back in, restart the Exchange SA and the Reciepent Update Service will start working again. (&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(mailnickname=*)(homeMdb=*))
