Existing install or remnants of a failed install
Hi, This might be an intersting problem I have and was looking for some guidance if anyone has faced this issue before. I am beeing tasked to install Exchange 2010 in our organization and I am taking the necessary steps outlined by Microsoft for deploying. One of the tools I used was Microsoft Exchange Pre-Deployment Analyzer to check for any problems I may need to fix before hand. I was suprised to learn that the previous administrator must have installed Exchange 2003 some time back before I came on board. The analyzer makes reference to 2 exchange servers 2003 and 3 pre-Exchange2010 mailboxes still active. It indicates that I need to upgrade these Win2003 servers to SP1 before installation which I am unable to do since these servers are not functional machines on the network. These servers must have been removed but i cannot say for sure if they were just unplugged, orremoved from the domain gracefully. I am wondering is there a way to remove these servers and mailboxes from ADUC so I can install Exchange 2010 without having these servers available. I was just going to select delete in Sites and Services for the servers identified but i do not believe this will help entirely expecially with the 3 existing mailboxes. I am also afraid of doing this because my experience with Exchange is minimal I would rather try to get it right the first time than to create a bigger headache later on. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
