Exclude a dedicated CAS from a few CAS servers
Dear All, We have a few CAS servers in one of the sites. And all of them are NOT installed in a pool (e.g. NLB, round robin..) Since one of them has some problem, we have shut it down for maintenance later. Unfortunately, we found that the webmail or ActiveSync requests were still trying to connect to the problematic CAS server. This can be confirmed from IIS Log. Would you please advise is it possible prevent this temporary ? I mean isolate this server, not uninstall it. Please help. Regards, Tommy

Ifyour using NLB this will help Remove a Host from Network Load Balancing Cluster http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc733098.aspx

Sorry, no NLB or others. Just standalone CAS servers. I don't know why the webmail or ActiveSync requests are still passing to the died CAS server. As I remembered, one possible solution is to remove something link SCP record in AD. But not sure. REgards, Tommy

Are you sure you havent got no dns records setup which points to your cas servers? Are your CAS server in a CAS array, remove that server from the CAS array if it is. Sukh

For the DNS record, as I know, there are only A record for the node itself only. If there is any DNS record for CAS server, plesaae let me know then I will check. Thanks. For the CAS array, I have checked that those CAS servers were simply installed individually. There is no "array" configured, no NLB, hardware load balancer or DNS round robin.

Hi, Yes, the problem could be caused by the SCP records or your DNS settings. Check the if your have a record 'autodiscover.domain.com' which is pointed to the CAS server you removed. If yes, please modify the record. Try to modify the SCP record: 1. Open EMS, type: Get-ClientAccessServer |ft identity, AutodiscverServiceInternalUri,AutodiscoverSiteScope You will see the SCP records, such as Identity AutodiscverServiceInternalUri AutodiscoverSiteScope -------------- ----------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------- CAS1 https://cas1.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml (SITE-US) CAS2 https://cas2.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml (SITE-US) CAS3 https://cas3.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml (SITE-UK) 2. If you want to remove the CAS2. Then you can run the following command the modify the SCP record and point it to the CAS1 which is in the same SITE as CAS2. Set-ClientAccessServer –identity CAS1 –AutodiscverServiceInternalUri: https://cas2.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml Also make sure that there is no SCP record is pointed to the CAS server that you removed.
