Exchnage 2007 Upgrade to SP1 Mailbox role failed
I have two Sites A and B in a single Domain. in Site A, i have Schema Master, and Exchange 2007 64bit on Windows 2003 Server. On Site B i have GCS and Exchange 2007 SP1 64bit , both are working fine in Co-Existing with Exchange 2003. But when i try to upgrade Exchnage 2007 in Site A it upgrade the CA and HUB role but on Mailbox Role it gives the error: Exchange Server component Mailbox Role failed. Error: Error: Event ID: 1002 Active Directory operation failed on DC.domain.com. The object 'CN=First Storage Group,CN=InformationStore,CN=EXCH07,CN=Servers,CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT),CN=Administrative Groups,CN=DomainName,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=Domain,DC=com' already exists. Any solution ?

Hi, Verify that below registry keys exists and values are same. HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\v8.0\MailboxRole -> ConfiguredVersion & UnpackedVersion

Mailbox role only has "UnpackedVersion" key while HUB and ClientAccessRole has both keys ConfiguredVersion & UnpackedVersion.

Take the backup of HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\v8.0\MailboxRole by exporting it. If it doesnt have Watermark key at same place then run below command and get exchange version. Get-ExchangeServer | Select Name, AdminDisplayVersion This gives you version in Version 8.1 (Build 240.6) format, now create a string value registry key name ConfiguredVersion & give the value of like 8.1.240.6 & run the setup again and see if it completes.
