Exchange setup encountered an error
Hey, I got a big big problem when i'm trying to install Exchange 2007 SP1 on a Server 2003 R2 machine. When i enter the setup menu and choose option 4. install exchange it is giving me an error: "Exchange setup encountered an error". Exchange itself didn't create any log files. When i look in the event viewer it says. Faulting application exsetup.exe, version 8.1.240.6, stamp 474b7502, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.2.3790.4480, stamp 49c51cdd, debug? 0, fault address 0x000000000000dd50. When i try to install from the command line it says: C:\Software\Server Software\exchange>setup.com /mode:install /roles:MB,CA,HT Welcome to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Unattended Setup Preparing Exchange Setup Unhandled Exception: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or ____ embly 'Microsoft.Exchange.Setup.Common, Version=8.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, Public KeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. LOG: Attempting download of new URL file:///C:/Software/Server Software/exchange /Setup/ServerRoles/Common/Microsoft.Exchange.Setup.Common/Microsoft.Exchange.Set up.Common.EXE. Exchange Server setup encountered an error. I tried to make it work with .NET 2.0 with all kind of service packs and 3.0 and 3.5 SP1. I installed Powershell 1.0 and also tried it with 2.0. And the MMC 3.0 is installed too. I think there is a problem with Microsoft.Exchange.Setup.Common like it says in the command prompt. I hope that anyone can help me soon, i'm totally out of ideas. PSSorry for my bad english but i'm dutch so... :P

Hi,Try to download a fresh copy of exchange set up files and run the installation from there.Try to uninstall all the pre requsites , reinstall it and then try to start the installation with the newly downloaded installable file. Also i will always recommend to go with W2K8 OS and have a very stable OS rather then go for W2K3 R2. ooh yes, i'm installing exchange now! I think my version was corrupted or something. I downloaded Exchange 07 SP2 from the microsoft site (did not even knew you could download it from there) and he's installing now. I'm running 2003 because it uses relatively less memory than 2008. And i also want to install two virtual machines for edge transport and one for forefront proxy, so i don't think i got enough ram when i run 2008 as my main system. But i got one question left. Can i activate this version i got now? I've got a legal key from MSDN for Exchange 2007 Standard and Enterprise SP1. Thanx for your answer!
