Exchange server on muiltple site in same AD
Dear expert, Here is the current design of our company AD. HK is the root W2K AD domain and SH is the child domain. Both of the site have totally 2 DCs and one exchange server. Both of the site are using the same email address. The email MX record is pointing to HK server. The email will be forwarded from HK exchange if the user in SH exchange server Location AD domain Exchange Exchange address HK hkabc.com Exchange 2003 server user@hkabc.com SHsh.abc.com Exchange 2000 server user@hkabc.com Can we seaprate domain in HK and SH between still using the same email address? The problem is the replication between HK and SH always lost the communication and caused SH usergot the email problem on sending and receiving via HK. We would like to seaprate the domain to reduce the dependancy of HK office? Thanks Joe

Joe, if you have only a single Active Directory, you can have only one Exchange organization. You could give all users in the SH office an SMTP address of user@sh.hkabc.com and then point the MX record to the Exchange server in SH site. The problem is not Exchange in this case, it is "The Internet". If everyone in your organization has an e-mail address like user@hkabc.com, the SMTP servers on the Internet are not smart enough to know which site to send the mail to.

Hi Jim Thanks for your help and reply. Can Isetup a separate AD domain in SH and user can use hkabc.com as their sender address(same as HK). All the emails will be going via HK if the user is in SH, did HK exchange will able to forward to SH exchange. Can they sharing the sameglobal address list? As yousaid above, the SH exchange cannot be in the same Exchange organization. Am I right? We would like to separate 2 networks and minimize the dependency of HK office. Another option will be SH create a separate AD domain and add a MX record sh.abc.com pointing to SH exchange server. Which mean that SH AD will not need to communication with HK. I will create a email forward rule in HK to forward all email to xxx@sh.abc.com. If we use this option, can they share the global address list with HK? Can we change the sender address to xxx@abc.com? It is nota real sender addressbut I we don't want to change the email address for all SH users. Thanks Joe
