Exchange server does not accept SBS2008 product code
I have installed SBS2008 then successfully installed exchange server 2007 SP3 from MS website. However when ~I enter the SBS 2008 product key for exchange Server I get the message invalid product key. Everthing is installed and working fine however exchange server tells me it is 120 trail and will not accept the SBS2008 product key. Please help.

You shouldn't have installed Exchange 2007 separately, it should have been done through the SBS 2008 setup. You will probably have to remove Exchange, then install it from SBS. Then apply SP3. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources

Hi Simon Many thanks for your reply. I installed SBS from SBS2008 Standard for HP Proliant servers and exchange software was not on the the CD. So afeter a bit of research found that I could install the latest exchange server from MS site. SBS 2008 standard product does include Exchange Server. Any more thoughts. The DVD supplied says that it is only for HP Proliant Machines which is what I have it installed on. All very frustrating. Stephen

I would contact the reseller to get a proper dvd kit because Exchange should be included with the kit that you receive with SBS 2008. Like Simon writes the key is probably special and match only the SBS version and not the standard. /MartinExchange is a passion not just a collaboration software.

From all the info I have been reading it appears that the exchange software is all standard ie just two version either 32 or 64 and it is the key that determines the identity and level of the software. The software I installed was 64 SP3 from microsoft website which I would have needed to install even if the DVD had exchange it would not have been SP3. Think I also read that SBS2008 did ship without exchange 2007 and that it was necessary to install from a download. Stephen

What you have read is wrong. Are you sure that the DVD you received was for SBS 2008? SBS 2008 is sold as a complete product - which includes Exchange 2007. The installer makes extensive modifications to the configuration of Exchange 2007 for the integration with its product. I have installed many SBS 2008 servers and it comes with Exchange 2007 every time. No licence key has to be installed. What you do have to download and install is Exchange 2007 SP2 or SP3, as the included DVD is only SP1. However that is installed after you have completed the installation of SBS 2008 including all of its options. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources

The DVD says Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Standard For HP Proliant Servers And when we spoke with HP they told us we need to speak with Microsoft.

That isn't SBS. If you have been sold SBS then someone has shipped you the wrong media kit. You need to speak to your supplier and confirm what you have been sold. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources

Well it looks like we have Windowds Server 2008 Standard and not SBS 2008 Standard. So it doesn't come with Exchange Server Aaaarrrrrrgggggg Such a subtle difference in the wording of the products, am I the first one to be caught out by this. So would I be able to continue with my setup and just buy a license for exchange server 2007 ? Everything seemed to work fine Thanks

The price is a bit different as well, and if you have purchased SBS 2008 CALs then those are not valid for use with the full product. You would have to purchase Exchange 2010 on volume licencing, then use downgrade rights. Retail box doesn't include downgrade rights as far as I am aware. I would check with your supplier what you have bought and what you have been supplied with, as it is a major difference. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources
