Exchange server Memory Issue
Hi, We have an Exchange Server 2003 installed, with regular backups using symantec BE 12.5. every now and then, the memory on the logical drive holding the database starts to decrease (from 22 GB) until it reaches 100MB and stops all the Exchange operations.. the Fix to this issue is to restart the server, which eventually releases all the blocked memory.i have looked into the mail logs, but they are cleared everytime a full backup runs (weekly)any ideas??Wasif

What exactly you mean when you say "the memory on the logical drive holding the database starts to decrease (from 22 GB)". To be precise are you talking about the 1. Hard Drive (logical drive).or2. Memory (RAM)Raj

Probabaly its the temp file that gets created when you start the back up. Not sure which file is that for Backup Exec but for Net Back up it is NBU_VSP_Cache in C drive root.As soon as you reboot the cache gets cleared and you get the free space.Raj

Hi,I recommend you toopen the event log to check if any related event has been logged there. Best practices for Backup Exec 12.5 Agent for Microsoft Exchange Serverhttp://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/311710.htmRegards,Xiu

I guess you are talking about Transaction LOG drive. If the LOG drive ran out of space then it will stop all exchange services. You need to schedule your backup job to make sure that your LOGS were properly purged by the server. Normal backup and incremental backup will purge logs. Xiu,Nothing out of the ordinary in the event Log, and i have gone through the Best Practices several timesVinod,Yes, i am talking about the transaction Logs. Apparently, they are clearedby the BE when the full backup runs every weekend. (well atleast i cant see them any more after the backup).i will modify the transaction log files location today, and see ifi canisolate the issue?? regards,Wasif
