Exchange server 2010 : Users are in different domain then Exchange Server
Hello, I have the situation that there is an existing Exchange 2010 server infrastructure on domain1.com. Now there will be a new domain which is not part of the existing forrest (it is a separate forrest) domain2.com. All users in domain2.com shall get an exchange mailbox on the exchange infrastructure at domain1.com. What are the minimum requirements to get this done (ideally these two domains do not even share a trust relationship) Best regards Marc

Hello, why cant you create an account for user1 in domain1.com? 1) the useraccount UPN is flexible because the suffix is free text and you decide the upn 2) the mailaddresses configures for each mailaccount is individual. so why cant you create such accounts? regards Thomas Paetzold visit my blog on: http://sus42.wordpress.com

Hello, the problem is, that I want to create a mailbox on exchange Server for a user who is defined in domain2.com. But if I try to create a mailbox, I can only select user accounts from domain1.com. I cna create user accounts in domain2.com, and they are configured there. But I do not see them in EMC when I try to set up a mailbox for them. It is not a matter of getting the eMAil address from domain2.com for a user of domain1.com, that works. Best regards MarcMarc

I think what you are looking for is documentation closely related to a Resource forest that houses your Exchange server and a User forest that houses your users. In order for users in domain 2 to receive email addresses, you need to create the following: 1. User account in domain 1 EXCHMB_user1. leave this account enabled (it will be disabled by Exchange in further steps) 2. User account in domain 2 user1. 3. From Domain 1 Exchange Management Console create a new mailbox of type linked and specify the local mailbox and then the information for domain 2 and the mailbox in domain 2. This basically sets EXCHMB_user1 to show up in the gal and have all the mail and domain 2 user1 to have full access and login with their credentials to the mailbox. You need to make sure there is a forest trust before implementing this and it doesn't require that you prep domain 2 in any fashion.Jason Apt, Microsoft Certified Master | Exchange 2010 My Blog
