Exchange server 2007 dual users one email address
Hi, We have Active Directory 2003 and Exchange 2007. We have about 25 users with no email account setup. We only setup the AD account. We want to populate their AD profile with a generic shared email address i.e. xxxx@mail.com. That is in the email field in AD we would enter the same email address for all 25 users. It is a generic mailbox we created for them to share. Is this possible to do. They are not allowed to have their own email address as they are volunteers. We have another software that uses AD details in an SQL database and we want them to have the same email address. Can a user without a mailbox setup have the AD mailbox field populated with a email address that does not match their name and can all 25 have the same email address.

SMTP addresses must be unique per account. Person A and Person B cannot have the same email address. You can set up two separate accounts AND a DG with the common SMTP address. Then you make each person a member of it. Thats one way to do it. They could use the same AD account and mailbox but that would get nasty from a security who did what, when perspective. And the part about them not being allowed their own email address because theyre volunteers doesnt make sense. You ARE asking us to give them their own address, just the same one for both of them. No employee is proposed, as per your question, to share that address. "Kaddie00" wrote in message news:220eb05b-d4df-4de4-abb5-e88a00aead0c... Hi, We have Active Directory 2003 and Exchange 2007. One option is they have an AD account already. Create a mailbox and grant the volunteer AD users full mailbox access to the mailbox and create them an outlook profile for this mailbox. Keep in mind that Exchange defaults to 32 max sessions (which is configurable) since you have 25 users you should be ok but you still might be susceptible to hitting the default limit if users dock and undock laptops or other circumstances that may eat up a session.James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com
