Exchange not able to get to an external domain through our internal DNS server / DNS has been migrated to Windows 2008R2 with Conditional forwarders
Hi, We have migrated our DNS servers to Windows 2008R2. We have configured conditional forwarding zones in the new servers in order to get to an external domain, let's call it abc.com The resolution works fine however now we have problem with our Exchange servers delivering emails to the abc.com external domain. The clients are going to the DNS servers and they try to resolve the MX record based on the conditional forwarding that we have in place but it does not work. The minute we remove the conditonal forwarding for this domain then we can get to the MX records with no problems. Also if we try to resolve through an external DNS server then everything works fine as well. The same DNS setup used to work fine with DNS Windows 2003, we just moved the DNS forwarding on Windows 2003 to Conditional Forwarding over Windows 2008R2. Could anyone help? Thank you!

Hi post, Per yoru description, it seems not a issue related with exchange, right? It's more likely the dns server could not forward the nslookup to other server successfully. Like you referred, if you do not set the forward setting, and using the external dns, everyting work well. I would suggest that you could post it on the DNS related forum, you will get more hlep from there. Regards!
