Exchange maintenance window
Hi all, We have some problems with our exchange maintenance windows. Currently they are now big enough. I am looking for some advice on how long the maintenance windows should be. We are running Exchange 2007 and are getting ESE events 704 and 629 and MSExchangeIS Mailbox Store events 9871 being logged. Our DB's range up to 250GB in size. This is on an SCC clustered mailbox server with 16 storage groups and 16 databases. Thanks for any input.

Event 9871 is logged when the maintenance window is over for a database, but a transaction is still being processed. Exchange doesn't end the transaction just because it hits the end of the maintenance window, it just logs the 9871. You can safely ignore the error (or extend the maintenance window if you want to avoid the event being logged) Regards, Mukram

Guys, Thanks for the input. We currently are not having any porblems with our backups, and I am aware of the causes of the event log entries. My original question still stands. How long should my maintenance widow be for a 250GB database. I have seen recommendations that you should see 706 (defrag completed) every 2 days, but no way of calculating how long the online defrag will take depending on database size, disk I/O, memory etc. Thanks.
