Exchange and IIS - SMTP store driver submitted message to MTA
HELP - our company cannot send or receive email.History:SBS 2003 R2, all windows updates, etc.Installed Sharepoint 3.0 side by side.Testing email alert features. Notice emails not going out. I am not versed with IIS at all. Tried a couple of things then decided to re-install IIS SMTP component.NOT GOOD.Found that I had damaged the IIS / Exchange Server SMTP service extensions and they had not been restored.I used KB822939 & Q320202 to resolve the problem with Exchange. (Un-install and re-install IIS and Exchange)However during the re-install process I restored the IIS settings and copied the inetpub directory back over, to recover all my sharepoint databases and this seems to have caused the same problem. I cannot get exchange to work for the company. Any help is appreciated.

SBS 2003 is a highly integrated platform with lots of dependencies. Most often you should, at least as a starting point, use one of the wizards for configuration, troubleshooting and repair. In your case I would use the Small Business Server Best Practices Analyzer and the The Configure E-mail and Internet Connection Wizard (known as CEICW) to see if these two tools can help you further. You are also much more likely to get fast and efficient help in one of the forums below: Discussions in microsoft.public.windows.server.sbshttp://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/list/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs There's another interface to these news groups as well:http://msgroups.net/microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs/ Smallbizserver Forumshttp://www.smallbizserver.net/Forums.aspx MCTS: Messaging | MCSE: S+M | Small Business Specialist

Thanks for the reply John. After the second "re-install" following KB822939 & Q320202 and NOT copying the inetpub directory back everything is up and running again. However my orginial problem still exists. No emails going out from the Sharepoint 3.0 site. In the event log I find the follow informaiton: Event Type: ErrorEvent Source: Windows SharePoint Services 3Event Category: E-Mail Event ID: 6858Date: 2/1/2010Time: 10:15:39 AMUser: N/AComputer: MS-FS0Description:An error occurred while talking to SMTP host ?????. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.So I research the error message, and find there is NO smtp virtual server in the IIS Manager. I research that problem and find http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/555030, which advises me to register a dll, I do that and still no smtp virtual server in the IIS Manager. Method 2 recommends re-installing IIS, I have done this a few times already over the weekend. What can I do to get this to work?Is this the right forum, are you the right person to be asking about this? I will post this question in the smallbiz forum too. Thanks much!
