Exchange and DC Maintenance
Hello Running Exchange 2007 SP2 in a Windows 2008 environment. All servers (DC's, GC's, and Exchange) are in a site named HQ. We're planning on taking some of the DC'/GC's down for maintenance for a few hours, they need a hardware replacement. How will Exchange cope with this? What I'm worried is that it will try to reach a DC/GC that is down, keep trying for 5 mins, give up and get another one that is down, try for 5 mins, etc etc until it finally finds one that is up and running.

Yes, Kind of. Why don't you remove the dcs that you are working with from the directory access tab? That way Exchange won't try, it will work with only the ones listed. Add the servers back or for AD toplogy discovery after all your dcs are up.

Hi, if you have more than one DC in your site, exchange will look for a valid DC/GC dynamically in the DC list unless you statically specify a DC/GC. use Get-ExchangeServer |fl to check how many DC/GC are used by Exchange. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
