Exchange Servers overseas connected to our Exchange server here is US?
We are an International Organization. Most of our overseas offices are in NW/SE Africa, Bangladesh, and Tajikistan. I currently have Exchange 2010 set up with two (CA,HUB) servers in a CAS array and two mailbox servers in a DAG. We have 4 bonded T1's coming into our Headquarters in the US. Our 400 users overseas experience a lot of latency when connecting to us. Questions: (1) What is the best solution for this? (2) Do I need to place an Exchange server overseas somewhere? If so, what part of the server would be there...CA, HUB, Mailbox? (3) How would it connect to our server here in the US? (4)Does Microsoft provide a way to talk to someone in depth about these issues without charging us for the information? Thanks.

If you're talking net latency then you need a better pipe. More of a network thing. If you do have an Exch server overseas, then you really need to make sure latecny isnt going to be an issue again, if it is then you can consider deploying exch on each office, I dont know how bad the latech is and what is expected and accpeted by the business. Whereever you have deployed exch, ie. in each ad site, you should have a cas/hub DC/GC. Exch servers are connected via connectors which are setup during the install, as long as you havce your AD sites/subnets setup all should work. I wish, nothing is free, time is money. Sukh

No matter how much bandwidth there is it still take a finite amount of time to get an electron to move 12,000 miles. >2. CathyJB, in your situation you need assess amount of traffic for e-mail client. You can use Exchange Profile Analyser for determine mail traffic intensivity. Take educt into consideration about needs to distribute your mail system. May be in some offices implementing dedicated mail server will be nessesary. You can determinre this only after traffic assessment. In overseas offices single server with all roles placed will be suffice. But in every AD sites where placed Exchange server you must have DC\GC, as talking above.MVP Exchange Server from Russia http://okrylov.wordpress.com
