Exchange Servers (2013) C drive running out of space

Hello,

I have 2 Mailbox Servers and 1 Client Access Server with DPM up and running for backups without any issues. I understand that if the DPM is running without any issues, it should purge the log files on the Exchange Servers.  The total users in my organization is 110. For some reason, the C drive keeps filling up every month and I have increased it up to 120 GB now, it still runs out of space.

Are you talking about the Database transaction logs or are you talking about IIS logs and stuff like that? Are your Database and transaction log files on the c:\?

Hi. Exchange not support the combination with other applications. You combined Exchange and PDM (SC 2012) are two different applications, they are used differently server resources. This is not a supported configuration.

It is recommended to install the 2 CAS role in the 2 MBX and configure DNS RR. The role of the CAS server to remove from DPM servers.

Hi ,

I hope you have installed your exchange 2013 in C drive .So Please check the exchange mail.que database size .In case if that is one which is occupying huge amount of space ,please relocate the mail.que database to the different location .

As per my understanding , in exchange 2013 mail.que database will occupies huge size because of the safety net feature.

Note : I would suggest you to relocate the exchange mail.que database to the different drive.

Queue database location :

%ExchangeInstallPath%TransportRoles\data\Queue.

Hi Nithyanandham,

Thanks for your reply. I already checked the size of the mail.que database, it holds only 3 GB size of data in the C: drive. The interesting part is the Users folders in the C: drive occupies 11.5 GB size on both the CAS and Mailbox Servers, I have the profiles of a few domain (Exchange) users under this folder. This is strange, because they do not login to the Exchange Servers and only the domain admin accounts have the access. I am assuming this happens when a few users change their password on Outlook Web App.

Thanks,

Sathish

Thanks for your reply. I do not have DPM and CAS installed on the same server, the DPM has its own dedicated virtual machine.

Thanks,

Sathish

Hello Hinte,

Thanks for your reply. I have the database logs in the D: drive, but the transport and connectivity logs are in C: drive.

Yea those unfortunately do not clean themselves up (the only ones that do are the database transaction logs).  You can use the link below to run a script that cleans them up

Yes, it doesn't purge automatically. Thanks for the script, I will test it before I execute it :).

The Users folders in the C: drive also occupies 11.5 GB size on both the CAS and Mailbox Servers, I have the profiles of a few domain (Exchange) users under this folder. This is strange, because they do not login to the Exchange Servers and only the domain admin accounts have the access. I am assuming this happens when a few users change their password on Outlook Web App. Do you have any idea about this?

Thanks!
