Exchange Server Offline Address Book error 8004010F
On both Exchange 2003 and 2007, I had problems with:- Synch errors showing up in the Synch folder in Outlook for Unable to download the offline address book- error trying to manually download the offline address with Send/Receive- problems with Office Communicator 2007 errors with unable to connect to the address book- unable to generate the offline address book (new or old) in exchange 2007Basically, I fixed it all by:1) connecting to ADSIEDIT | Configuration | Services | Microsoft Exchange | Organization Name | Address Lists Container2) under the Security tab of each Offline Address List, I added Authenicated User to the list and gave them Read and Download Address Book access. This stopped the error from coming up, but I am not sure if there are negative ramifications from this.Everything seems to be working, but did I create a security hole? Please advise,@ndyP

Giving authenticated users (users who logon to your domain) the right to "Read and Download Address Book" should not create a security hole, but they should be able to do this without the admin having to manipulate permissions at the ADSI level. Also, I don't see why granting the right to download the address book would have resolved a failure to generate the OAB to start with (???).I think there's something else going on.For how long (how much time) has the error not come up? OAB generation and publication to the CAS web share is a once a day (?) event. Have you been OK for several days?

Hi,By default, the Authenticated Users must have Read and Download permission on the Offline Address List so that the address can be downloaded on the local profile. Thus, you did the correct operation. That's a solution rather than a security hole.ThanksAllen

Hi,Thanks for this and this is an article I started with. For anybody reading this, do that first.I had to check the permissions after exhausting all other means.By default, but probably something that got messed up in the past, address books don't have the correct permissions once created. We have a hosting environment with separated address books and something done to separate lists problably did this. Thanks all for posting....@ndyP
