Exchange Server 2010 abrupt Mailbox error, need urgent help!

Hi Experts,

I had an abrupt problem came out when my clients brought me notice that they're disconnected from exchange, when I checked my exchange console then I saw my mailbox "dismounted" don't know how! Anyways I ran command to check my .edb file so in status it was mentioned "status: dirty shutdown" then i ran same utility with some command then in "status: clean shutdown" but now I'm still unable to mount it. Below is the error...

What do you mean by "then i ran same utility with some command".  What is "some command"? Did you repair it?

You could try moving all the transaction logs to another directory and attempt to mount the database.

-1022 errors are not good and indicate something serisously wrong most likely caused by bad hardware or anti virus programs that aren't excluded from scanning the Exchange dirs and  processes

You have really 4 options if you can not get it to mount:

1. Restore from backup ( preferred)

2. Repair with eseutil /p ( last resort - there will be data loss)

3. Recover with a 3rd party tool

4. Call Microsoft Support.

Hi,

Did you perform soft recovery using Eseutil Tool? If yes, after we bring the state of database back to clean shutdown, we can restore a database from a Windows Server Backup or perform a hard repair. And the Priority recommendations are just like Andy said.

When performing a hard repair using eseutil /p will check the database for any damaged pages. If it finds any, it will delete them. Make sure that you can live without any data inside the database before doing a hard repair, because you may lose data. Also, make sure you have twice as much free space as the size of the database before doing a hard repair this is required for the temporary database that will be created.

In addition, if you needs to mount it immediately, I suggest to create a new database and move the users to that database by the following steps:

  1. Export the PST for all users under the dismounted database.
  2. Create a new database and run command get-mailbox -database old database | set-mailbox database new database to point all users to that new database.
  3. Launch Outlook (create new Outlook profile )and OWA to check the mail flow.
  4. If Outlook and OWA are work fine then import the PST file.

I also checked it Status and it's "clean shutdown" mentioning now. I don't know what happened. I also again ran "eseutil /p" command and now its showing this error "Operation terminated with error -4001 (JET_errFileIOBeyondEOF, a read was issued to a location beyond EOF (writes will expand the file)) after 619.808 seconds". Now what is this error sir? I just can not handle it and database is still in corrupted status :( Help plz...

As Andy had suggested earlier, and the fact that you had a 2nd failure you have the following options:

  1. Restore Database from backup
  2. Try a 3rd Party Tool for Recovery
  3. Call Microsoft for Support

At this point, Option 3 may be your best option due to the critical nature of having your mailbox db down.  I left out eseutil on purpose, b\c you just tried and it failed.

I would also check to see fi you have any disk errors in the Windows logs (something is not right on this server) .  If you do, then I would put new storage on the server and see if you can move the DB path prior to performing the restore.

I tried 3rd party recovery tool and have exported all users mails. Now I've made new database files and mounted it for all existing users. Thanks experts but now what I know, If exchange database ever corrupted it's almost not possible to fix it rather making new one. :)
